A36 (Grade 50) versus A572 Gr 50 - Structural engineering a572 gr 50 h beam yield strength

The project is Design-Build, and the contractor is requesting the use of ASTM A36, Grade 50 rods, which I'm assuming are more readily available (thus cheaper). In looking at the AISC Manual, the tensile strength for A36 steel varies from 58-80 ksi. Further, the yield strength is specified as 36 ksi.A572 Structural, Carbon & HSLA Steel Plate - Chapel SteelA572 is a high strength low alloy steel plate used in a variety of structural applications. ASTM A572 High Strength Steel I Beam

ASTM A572 High Strength Steel I Beam Owing to its high strength of 50,000 ksi yield strength, A572-50 steel I sections are increasingly replacing common carbon steel beam like A36 which should be thicker to satisfy the strength requirement. ASTM 572 Steel I section is ASTM A572 Steel - Ultra-High Strength - CopperloyA572 Grade 50 has a smaller cross-section that can support the same or larger load than A36 steel or steels that are not structural grade. This directly correlates to the overall weight of the ramp where the higher the steels Yield Strength, the less the ramp can weigh. A572 Grade 50 has a 139% greater Yield Strength than A36 steel.ASTM A572 Steel Beam - Excellent Weight-Strength RatioASTM A572-50 steel i beam - IPN dimension. A572-50 steel i beam is widely used in construction & building applications for it can provide more strength per unit of weight. Its low content of alloy elements such as columbium & vanadium optimize the properties in strength and atmospheric corrosion. Owing to its high strength of 50,000 ksi yield strength, A572-50 steel I sections are increasingly replacing
